In this course you will explore the interconnected fields of citizenship and migration in the European Union with a view to understand relevant policies and laws affecting migrants and citizens.

The course is designed for a broad audience, namely anyone interested in questions of citizenship, migration and the European Union. Students with advanced knowledge of these issues should be aware that this is an advanced introductory course.

Course aim

After this course you are able to:
• Identify the challenges that EU citizenship and migration bring to core notions such as the state, membership, political community.
• Gain a basic understanding of how the EU has dealt with questions of citizenship, migration and security.
• Develop critical thinking skills to assess the existing legal framework and EU initiatives in the fields of migration and security.
• Develop presentation and analytical skills on a topic relating to citizenship/migration/security.

EUR 500: The fee includes the registration fees, course materials, access to library and IT facilities, coffee/tea, lunch, and a number of social activities.
