Qualitative Research Methods in Health Care
This basic 5-day course teaches participants how to conduct a qualitative research starting from a research question, and how to progress to writing a scientific paper.
Experienced qualitative researchers of international repute will lead the course and share their experience. Participants are encouraged to bring their own experiences of research, including their questions, doubts and failures.
These are the lectures and workshops in brief:
Qualitative inquiry: a different paradigm.
Setting up a qualitative research project + workshop
Reflect on own research projects in individual consultations.
Data-collection techniques (interviews, focus group discussions and observations) + workshops.
Analyzing qualitative data + workshop.
Appraising the quality of a qualitative research project.
Reporting the results from a qualitative research project.
Qualitative data analysis using NVivo software.
This year we invite Dr Gemma Hughes, health service researcher from Nuffield Department of Primary care Health Sciences, University of Oxford, UK, to talk about “Introduction to ethnography”
Early career researchers, PhD students, Master students (max 5), professionals, in a field related to health care. Experience in qualitative research is not required.
Successful completion of the summer school can be awarded with 3 credits according the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Credits will be awarded on the base of preparatory readings, 100 % (active) participation during the course and the successful completion of an assignment. The student needs to be able to assess the quality of a qualitative research paper using the tools that were offered in the course. The completion of the task is only mandatory for participants who want to achieve the ECTS study credits.
To include the credits in the curriculum at the home institution, participants need an agreement with the responsible person at their university. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to all participants at the end of the prgramme. The certificate of completion replaces the certificate of attendance. All certificates of completion are issued as a micro-credential.
EUR 1000: Fee includes course material, coffee breaks, warm lunch, social activities, farewell dinner and a one year NVIVO license. It does not include accommodation.
