This 2-week program will bring a general overview about sustainable and smart transportation in the future smart cities in terms of i) industry trends, business models, technical and urban design aspects. Based on different European case studies especially in Germany, this program will allow participants to get innovative methods so to deal with Smart cities current and future solutions.

This course offers theoretical and practical learning materials for transportation modelling and simulation techniques, with a focus on Smart Mobility and ITS solutions and real-world applications.

This course reviews the most well-known traffic simulation models, demand forecasting methods, business, social and political issues and related analytical techniques.

The course includes some case studies with the related excursions in German urban transport companies and startups to give student an insight into the concept of the smart mobilities and how their business models could grow. These excursions provide practical insight into the actual best practices and challenges for smart urban transportation systems in European cities such as Berlin.

Target group

The target group includes current university students who have completed at least one year of their studies (Bachelor's, Master's or PhD level). Working professionals with equivalent work experience are also welcome to apply. Fundamentals of mathematics and statistics in Bachelor programs

Course aim

Students will gain the knowledge and analytical skills in the fields of:

· Transport trends and futures (Megatrends)

· new social behaviors and innovative agendas, including sustainability goals

· Intelligence Transport systems (ITS) and Smart mobility modes

· Modeling and simulation approaches for future mobility

· Forecasting demand models in smart cities

3 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) for the academic course.

Fee info

EUR 950: The fee covers public transportation for the duration of the course, excursions, course materials, and a cultural program.
