Forecasting and Data Analytics via Gamification
This course presents the basic principles about the understanding and application of data analytics (only initial chapters of exploratory data analysis) and time series forecasting methods. The latter is the main topic of the course. An overview of the state of the art of statistical forecasting techniques will be presented along with the contribution of gamification in this field.
The aim of the course is to teach basic statistics, the basic steps of the forecasting methodology (Makridakis et. al. 2008), forecasting time series models, and the evaluation of forecasting methods. Additionally, participants will be able to basically use the statistical programming language R in order to analyze, visualize time-series data and produce forecasts with basic statistical forecasting models and participate in gamified educational applications relevant to the topic. The course will be expanded included teaching some of the Institute for the Future’s most powerful foresight tools, designed to support new opportunities for innovation and invention.
Due to Covid-19 precautions, this course may be arranged ONLINE instead of physical for the summer 2021. This will be confirmed by the end of April depending on the situation of COVID-19 around the world.
University students and graduates from around the world.
Participants, having participated into a gamified course will be able to:
Insert and analyse data, using the open source statistical programming language R.
Identify time series components.
Have a basic knowledge about forecasting methodology.
Produce forecasts using exponential smoothing and regression models.
Evaluate their models.
Experience in using a simple gamified application in the topic of exploratory data analysis and statistical literacy.
Recognize Institute for the Future’s most powerful foresight tools, designed to support new opportunities for innovation and invention.
