Reuse the Ruin – Summer Architecture Workshop is a unique occasion to improve your knowledge about architectural restoration, living ten days in one of the most beautiful cities of the world: Florence.
It is a multidisciplinary experience, meant to give you a complete framework of the issues inherent to the restoration project through various activities, such as lectures by international architects and professors; workshop about the reuse of a selected ruin, including a site inspection; final exhibition of the projects.
The educational purpose is focused on a learning-bydoing method: practicing the new pieces of knowledge under the supervision of every day guests and tutors, who will guide you during the development of your reuse project.

Target group

The workshop is open to all the architecture students, currently attending at least the third year of University (or at least 20 years old) and to graduated architects (maximum 35 years old).

Course aim

This educational experience will give you a complete framework of knowledge about the issues inherent to architectural heritage restoration. Thanks to the lectures, given by international architects and professors, participants will be able to deepen themes such as: the theories of restoration, the relationship between ruin and new building, the inclusion of new functions within a historical architecture, the traditional building methods, the historical and critical analysis, the strategies for heritage enhancement.
The workshop will be the occasion to practice on a reuse project and to prove that the reuse of the architectural heritage is possible.
