Data is the most valuable commodity in this digital economy era, with Data Science professionals being in high demand in the job market. This comprehensive course aims to equip participants with beginner and intermediate level concepts in Python and provides the technical foundation for a career in data science or research.
The Summer School focuses on hands-on learning rather than theoretical discussions. After the one-week course, participants know how to use some of the most popular Python toolkits and packages such as pandas, numpy, nltk, and spacy.
This Summer School targets postgraduate students (MSc and PhD) with an interest in finance. It can be extended to final year undergraduate students. Prior knowledge in finance is not required as we will focus more on the technical aspects of Python rather than finance theory.
Fluency in English, no knowledge of the Portuguese language is required.

Python is the most popular language for data science, and it is becoming a common job requirement in the financial services industry. 2nd Python Porto Summer School aims to provide participants with beginner and intermediate level Python skills through a short and intensive course. Participants adopt a hands-on approach and practice and refine their skills with many exercises and case studies.
The main focus of the course is on Python in a financial research setting. Participants do not require prior knowledge in this area. We cover topics ranging from structuring a program, importing, handling, and visualising data, to working with unstructured data in the context of Natural Language Processing.
