We cordially invite you to participate in the Summer School “Sport Economics & Management”, which will take place online from 16 to 29 August 2021. The Summer School is organised through cooperation by the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany, Jena) and the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism (Russia, Kazan). The project will be sponsored by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) by means of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research Germany. The participants of the Summer School have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge within the field of sports economics and sports management and to deepen their existing knowledge. The two-week course contributes to optimal preparation for a managerial position in the sports industry as well as a scientific position in the field of sports economics.

Course leader

Prof. Dr. Frank Daumann, head of the Institute for Sports Science, holds the chair for Sports Economics and Health Economics and scientific director of the MBA programme in Sports Management at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

Target group

The Summer School is aimed at bachelor, master and doctoral students in the fields of sports or economics sciences from Russia and other post-Soviet states. Some places are made available to students from Germany in corresponding subjects. Applicants must have already completed at least one university semester, be able to demonstrate good knowledge of English (at least B2) and have a high level of interest in the content of the Summer School. The number of places for admission to the course is limited to 30 participants. Admission to the course is based on competition.

Course aim

1. Imparting of a general economic understanding of the processes in the sports market and sports businesses
2. Imparting of theoretical knowledge including results from recent research in respect to the subject areas of sports economics, sports management and marketing
3. Imparting of application possibilities of management and economic instruments for different branches of sports
4. Improvement of the participants' intercultural competencies and abilities to communicate in an international and technical context
