European Studies
In this Summer School, you learn a lot about the economic, legal and political dimensions of the European Union. After an introduction of EU-history and -institutions, you debate current political questions. While you defend your perspective in a EU-role play, you become aware of the difficulties in decision-making processes.
Together we visit the European Parliament in Brussels and you get the chance to talk to its members!
This course is highly interactive and contains a lot of intensive and fun teamwork.

Course leader
This course is conducted by the Department of International Economics at RWTH Aachen University. For the content on EU's legal system, we work with a jurist for European and international law.
Target group
Every year we welcome students from all over the world. You can become part of our international student community if you:
- are at least 18 years old
- in your Bachelor's, Master's, in between or recently graduated
- are proficient in the English language
No previous knowledge is needed for this course. The content is taught starting from the basics.
Course aim
This Summer School's aim is for you to comprehend the foundations of European economics, law and politics.
After considering the EU's history, institutions and structure, you are able to discuss current and future challenges. Concepts from microeconomics, public economics and international economics help you to evaluate the consequences of international economic integration.
By including resource usage and the climate system in our evaluatios, you consider climate risk management as a European topic. Another current issue for European policies is the digital transformation, which you discuss thoroughly. Together with an insider who is working at the European Parliament, you analyze the European Legal system and the relationship between EU law and national law.
On top of that, you take a tour through the European Parliament in Brussels.

EUR 2990: With our all-inclusive package we provide our participants a carefree stay in the charming historic city of Aachen. The program fees of each on-campus program contain for example:
