Learn German in one of the most exciting cultural cities in Germany and Europe! In the four weeks of our course »Deutsch in Weimar«, you will effectively learn the many facets of the German language together with participants from all over the world. Whether you are a beginner, advanced or almost at a native speaker – we offer the right language level for everyone.

In our intensive course, you will learn not only speaking, comprehension and grammar, but also many exciting and amusing things about Germany and German culture. Come along on this voyage of discovery: from the legacy of Schiller, Goethe, Wieland and the Bauhaus you will learn the German language in an active and practical way! Free visits to exciting cultural sites such as the Goethe House, the City Palace or the brand new Bauhaus Museum are on the course programme.

Depending on your language level and your interests, you will also have the opportunity to explore Weimar's surrounding area, visit the neighboring cities and experience German culture first-hand on excursions. Your own wishes and suggestions are, of couse, always welcome in class!

After class as well you will have the opportunity to completely immerse yourself in the German language. Benefit from our varied activity programme and take advantage of the opportunity to directly use you new language skills:

• practice your German in a relaxed atmosphere during gaming nights
• get to know the German cuisine at the International Dinner
• improve listening comprehension and gain new insights into German culture when watching German films at cinema mon ami

Course leader

The Language Centre of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers German courses throughout the year. The intensive courses in August always are the cherry on top: Our courses are tought by committed and experienced teachers for German as a Foreign Language.

Target group

Our intensive German courses are designed for international students and graduates with the minimum age of 18 who seek an authentic experience and real immersion into the German culture and language. Most participants who join the course are 20 to 30 years of age and come from all parts of the world. But everybody is welcome, regardless of age.

There are no prerequisites for participation. You can start your first German language course without any knowledge or you can perfect your current German language skills.

Courses are offered on all levels - provided that there are enough participants who have the language skills required for the respective level.

Course aim

The goal of our courses is to help you improve your listening, reading, writing and speaking skills, learn, practice and expand your vocabulary and knowledge of grammar and phonetics. The courses strongly emphasise active communication. The instructors will also give presentations about Germany, its people and culture.

Fee info

EUR 700: 3 weeks (approx. 75 hrs)

The course fee is 700 EUR.

The course fee includes:

• Orientation & Support
• Programme according to description
• Teaching materials
• Bauhaus Summer School ID card
• Free use of buses in Weimar and local trains in Thuringia
• Certificate
• Internet access at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
• Free use of library
• Accompanying programme (except excursions)
• Free entrance to museums belonging to Klassik Stiftung Weimar
EUR 550: 3 weeks (approx. 75 hrs)

The course fee for students & alumni is 550 EUR.
The course fee for BUW students is 400 EUR.
