This Summer School focus on simulation technologies that are used in healthcare training and education and provides a perspective about future applications. In cooperation with the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD) and the local hospital association Centro Hospitalar Trás os Montes e Alto Douro (CHTMAD), systems and application are introduced that enable (future) health professionals as well as (biomedical) engineers to train for their jobs. Other topics that are part of this event include communication standards used in health IT to share data between health professionals. The shadowing of a simulation-based-training, conducted by CHTMAD, can be considered as one of the highlights of this event.

Target group

The target group includes medical students with an interest in technology as well as engineering students of study programs that are connected to health or life sciences.

Course aim

The aim of this Summer School is to promote IT solutions, like virtual environments, to be used in medical training. Participants bringing a medical background will benefit by learning about technologies that can be considered to play a larger role in their future working environments. Engineering students will be provided with a closer look on clinical processes in order to gain a better understanding how developed technologies are used in daily routine by health professionals.

One additional ECTS can be gain by providing a written summary report and extended investigation on specific topics introduced during the Summer School
