Synchrotron radiation (generation, source types, properties), scattering theory (Thompson & Compton scattering, scattering from atoms, refraction, reflection, absorption and fluorescence), beamlines (front end, primary optics, mirrors, monochromators, focusing, detectors), diffraction from crystals (lattices, structure factor), powder X-ray diffraction, Rietveld refinement, total scattering & pair distribution function, small angle X-ray scattering, practical aspects of synchrotron experiments, including safety training.
