The DCTP - Department of Heritage Studies and the CITCEM - Transdisciplinary Centre "Culture, Space and Memory" of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto are organizing the International Heritage Summer School 2023 (IHSS 2023) which will take place in July 2023. The IHSS will be held in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, São João da Pesquira and Lamego and in other emblematic places in the Douro valley.

The IHSS Douro'23 aims to promote a space for dialogue and promotion of knowledge on the themes of Cultural Heritage and Landscape. This year's theme is "Binominal landscapes: vernacular / erudite", and it is intended to discuss issues of cultural policies, social welfare, landscape interpretation and reading, safeguarding and promoting cultural heritage, in the context of the 21st century challenges.

Target group

Undergraduate Students, Master students and PhD candidates from Heritage Sciences, Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Anthropology, Geography, Tourism, History of Art, History and related areas.

Higher technicians and professionals in the areas of Heritage Sciences, Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Anthropology, Geography, Tourism, History of Art, History and related areas.

Course aim

The IHSS Douro'23 aim to promote a space for dialogue and promotion of knowledge on the themes of Cultural Heritage and Landscape and the new challenges that these themes must be discussed for the 21st century. The theme proposed for the next Summer School is "Landscapes: borders, thresholds and peripheries", and it is intended to discuss issues of cultural policies, social welfare, readings, and interpretation of the landscape and safeguarding and promoting cultural heritage.
