English as a Medium of Instruction
online courseThis two-week course hosted by the Centre for International Training and Education within The University of Leicester is designed for academic staff who are using, or planning to use, English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) i.e. teaching their academic subject in the English language. The course addresses the issues and challenges of teaching in English, covering methodology, techniques and strategies which can all be personalised to individual EMI contexts.

Target group
Participants should have a minimum of one year’s teaching experience and an English level equivalent to IELTS 6.5. Please contact us if you are unsure of your level or have not taken an English test recently.
Participants should ordinarily already be teaching in an EMI context.
Course aim
To identify the key issues in EMI and understand global and national trends
To introduce techniques and strategies to enhance students’ learning and engagement
To explore and use effective language for supporting course and assessment documentation
To study the effective use of language in EMI
To provide participants with options and ideas to be implemented in their own teaching context

This is a non-credit bearing course.

GBP 1500: Payment is required in full to accept a place on the course.
GBP 1400: Discount available for university partners.
