Microsimulation and Social Welfare Maximization

when 18 July 2023 - 20 July 2023
language English
duration 1 week

The workshop aims at offering young researchers (MSc, PhD) or more advanced scientists yet beginners in static modelling a rare and extensive introduction to the development of static microsimulation models and welfare analysis. The whole process, from research questions to the analysis of outcomes, will be examined with a focus on both practice and theory.

After an overview of basic concepts, participants in this 3–day workshop will start working on simple static models, simplified simulations and will be provide a link to welfare analysis. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to briefly discuss their own developments and plans.

Although not the main emphasis of the workshop, the demonstrations and exercises will be based on the free toolbox EUROMOD, a well–established development and simulation platform for static microsimulation modelling. There is no need for prior knowledge of EUROMOD, which will be introduced from zero during the workshop.

Course leader

The summer school will be run by Prof. Ugo Colombino (University of Turin)

Target group

early– stage researchers, policy makers and PhD students.
