The Association “Byzantine Oecumene” (Thessaloniki) is pleased to announce the organization of its first Summer School program to be held in Thessaloniki, from July 3 to July 9, 2023. Students will have the chance to participate to an intensive program in Byzantine and Slavic Studies about Thessaloniki and its area. Classes will take place at the premises of Byzantine Oecumene in the center of Thessaloniki.

The program includes daily course class sessions (two lectures in the mornings, one lecture and visits to the monuments
in the afternoons/”Byzantine Thessaloniki alive”), smaller discussion sections, as well as field trips, excursions and activities, that will allow participants to delve into Thessaloniki’s Byzantine cultural heritage as well as the bonds between Thessaloniki and the world of the Slavs.

Target group

Students of all levels and scholars of Humanities are encouraged to apply. The Summer School will host c. 30 participants.

Course aim

Aim of the course is to promote the historical and cultural aspects between the Byzantine Thessaloniki and the Slavic world, covering a wide spectrum of issues, combining teaching with other cultural activities (see below).

Credits info

On completion of the course, each student will receive a certificate of attendance.
