Learn German in one of the most exciting cultural cities in Germany and Europe!

In three weeks, you will effectively learn the many facets of the German language together with participants from all over the world. Whether you are a beginner, advanced, or almost a native speaker – we offer the right language level for everyone.

In our intensive course, you will learn not only speaking, comprehension, and grammar but also many exciting and amusing things about Germany and German culture. Come along on this voyage of discovery: from the legacy of Schiller, Goethe, Wieland, and the Bauhaus, you will learn the German language in an active and hands-on way! Free visits to exciting cultural sites such as the Goethe House, the City Palace, or the brand-new Bauhaus Museum are part of the course programme.

Even outside of the course, you can fully immerse yourself in the German language and exchange ideas with your fellow students. Our varied social programme offers many opportunities, which vary from chats during our game nights, visits to the cinema to improve your listening comprehension, and opportunities to expand your vocabulary by discussing exciting ingredients at the international dinner to a karaoke evening during which the bravest amongst you can sing their favourite songs. On the weekends, you can also join excursions to various important nearby cities.

Course leader

The Language Centre of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers German language courses throughout the year. The intensive courses in August always are the cherry on top: Our courses are tought by committed & experienced teachers for German as a Foreign Language

Target group

Our intensive German courses are designed for internationals from the age of 18 who seek an authentic experience and real immersion into the German culture and language. Our participants come from all over the worls! The average age is usually between 20 and 30 years, but all groups are very welcome regardless of age.

There are no language requiremets for participation. You can start your first German language course without any previous knowledge or you can perfect your existing German skills. Before course start, all participants take a placement test, according to the results of which the courses are put together.

Courses are offered on all levels, provided that there are enough participants who have the language skills required for the respective level.

Credits info

4 EC
After successful completion of the language course, you will receive a certificate of participation issued by the Bauhaus Summer School. It will show the course title, the date and duration of the course, the number of contact hours as well as the main contents and topics.

Participants earn 4 credit points (ECTS) after completion of the three-week course (approx. 75 teaching hours). In order to receive credit points, t is necessary to attend at least 80% of the course lessons and to fulfil the required tasks. It is possible to receive 2 extra credit points (ECTS) for the course if you book an additional module.

Prior to your participation, it is essential that you clarify whether your home university will recognise the foreign credits you intend to earn.

If you would like to receive a grade, you must discuss this with the teacher at the beginning of the course! The fulfilment of additional tasks may be necessary.

EUR 710: 3 weeks (approx. 75 hrs)

The course fee for students & alumni is 710 EUR.
The course fee for BUW students is 500 EUR.
