SciTech DiploHub, the Barcelona Science and Technology Diplomacy Hub, and IBEI, the leading academic and research institution on global affairs from Barcelona, have partnered to offer the 5th consecutive edition of a first-of-its-kind, university-accredited training in Science and Technology Diplomacy in a will to train the next cohort of leaders of a field that is increasingly essential to tackle humanity’s global challenges.

Aimed at mid-career scientists and technology experts, as well as diplomats and international relations practitioners, this in-person edition of the Summer School offers an immersive 30+ hours of face-to-face sessions that covers the most pressing issues on Science and Technology Diplomacy ranging from sustainable development to technology diplomacy, with a special focus on Europe, the Mediterranean and the role of global cities.

Course leader

This university-accredited consolidated program will be taught by the leading global experts in science diplomacy. Our recurrent faculty is comprised of world-class scholars and practitioners from internationally relevant institutions like CERN and the UN

Target group

This executive, university accredited face-to-face training is aimed at leading professionals aspiring to make an impact on today’s transnational challenges through furthering cross-border understanding and science and technology cooperation. Participants should have a graduate degree in a relevant field (i.e. any branch of science, technology, engineering, international affairs, public policy and political science) and ideally at least 3-5 years of related work experience in research, international relations or project management. Participants must demonstrate an interest in global issues, as well as a will to transcend professional silos and engage in interdisciplinary work. Demonstrated leadership capabilities as well as social commitment will be appreciated.

Course aim

Train and certify the next cohort of leaders of this increasingly essential field to tackle humanity’s global challenges through multi-stakeholder partnerships between the scientific and diplomatic communities.

Credits info

4 EC
A minimum attendance of 90% to all sessions is mandatory in order to obtain the certificate. In case participants require or are willing to obtain academic credits (4 ECTS) for the Summer School, they must request so during their application and submit a short final essay after completing the School. Students do not have to make any extra payment for this certificate, but need to verify in advance with their home institution that these credits will be recognized.

Fee info

EUR 1500: This is a not-for-profit project. The real economic cost of the course is 3,000 euros and is generously subsidized thanks to our partner organizations.
The discount fee covers application, tuition, visits, welcome dinner and other activities. Accommodation, visa, airfare and any other items not specifically mentioned are not included in the program fees.

All accepted candidates will receive an official acceptance letter modeled to request additional funding to their employer or external organizations.

Scholarships

The discount fee for all accepted participants of the school is 1,500 euros over the original cost of 3000. The institution can issue support letters to request additional funding from applicants' external organizations.
