The Winter School is organized by the Plastic Surgery Unit of the University of Pisa.

The Winter School is structured in a 5-day course characterized by lectures and hands on training covering the most commonly used techniques for microsurgical reconstruction in complex cases. Each day a different topic will be covered such as head and neck reconstruction, breast reconstruction, facial reanimation.

The course will include frontal lectures regarding the clinical anatomy of the district and a description of the different reconstructive options. It will also include a practical training in the OR during which the participants will be involved in patient evaluation, design and flap planning of the different reconstructive options and assist during two complex surgeries.

Course aim

The aim of the Winter School is to give participants the detailed knowledge and expertise needed to achieve the best results in complex microsurgical reconstructive procedures.

The decision-making process will be critically explained to the student and the techniques of flap planning, flap harvesting and donor site morbidity will be discussed.

A step-by-step approach will be used to explain each procedure, completed by tips and tricks from leading experts.

In conclusion, prevention and treatment of complications will be addressed.
