The course provides an overview of the data-driven decision-making practice. Students learn the foundations of using data for better decisions, including the basics of statistical reasoning and data-driven storytelling; origins of the data; approaches to use the data to understand causal relationships and make evidence-based judgements; opportunities and challenges of predictions and forecasting; perspectives brought by the AI and machine learning. Students will acquire skills of using the data in reasoning and communication on par with understanding the potential flaws of other’s argumentations and detecting possible data misuses and manipulations. The course will consist of lectures, quizzes, discussions and individual presentations.
