This workshop is about experimental image making. Urban sceneries of Berlin will be translated into iconic expressions. Risography is the main tool, not only used to produce a final output, but serving as creative method in the design process itself.

This workshop deals with the translation of urban spaces into images using the printing technique of risography. From field research in the city of Berlin, different strategies for image making through experimental design tools are to be explored. How can manual and technical methods be remixed to create new visual expressions? And how are they related to urban reality and its spaces?

Berlin as a public stage will be the trigger for our design process. Intangible moments shared with one another during field research in the city will be translated and visually expressed using risography: Specific technical conditions influence the aesthetics in such a way, that the printing process becomes a creative tool by itself.

Our observations will find their way back into the public space as art posters. This shows how an urban scenery can be condensed into graphic images becoming a unique visual expression.
