The Summer School TEMPORAL SOUNDS thematically focuses on the fascinating connection between sound and time and opens up a field of experimentation for the combination of artistic research and temporally dimensioned research questions. Methodological tools such as sound walks or audio papers will be presented, as well as insights into artistic practice in the field of soundscape research will be given. In addition, workshops will invite the participants to creatively work with sounds themselves. They will get impulses how to perceive sounds, record them, edit them with special editing software, analyse them and present them in public space.

Course aim

The Summer School TEMPORAL SOUNDS invites students to experiment with sounds and acoustics in order to expand the range of methods and develop specific research questions. The participants will experiment with perception walks/soundwalks, sound recordings and will be introduced to sound editing and speech recording. Also insights into artistic sound practice will be given. First steps of producing an own audio paper and group discussions on the limits and possibilities of non-textual research in cultural studies round off the programme.

Fee info

EUR 75: Partition fee: 75 Euro plus travel- and accomodation costs. (Please contact us in advance – we have pre-booked a limited amount of accommodation at moderate prices in Marburg).

Scholarships

Participation can be funded by the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP)/Erasmus+. In countries that are associated to the Erasmus+ programme sending universities can cover the travel and participation expenses. Please contact your local Erasmus coordinator!
