The program consists of eight modules relating to themes of health, law, and technology, and there will be two sessions for every module. Each module will consist of two sessions, and both regulatory and technological aspects of every theme will be highlighted throughout these sessions. The 8 modules will be: i) Innovative use of AI in health-related technology, ii) AI & Medical Devices, iii) How might Large Language Models be used in Medical Devices, iv) Health Data Governance (including EHDS), v) Health apps, sensors, wearables and biomarkers, vi) Design thinking and medical device development, vii) Health data and Intellectual Property, and viii) Patient and Healthcare Provider Perspective.

Course leader

The Summer School is a collaborative effort between the Health and Ageing Law Lab of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium and the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Digital Health of the Technische Universität Dresden, Germany.

Target group

This Summer School aims to bring together legal scholars, practitioners, medical doctors, health professionals, policymakers, industry experts, and enthusiasts of these topics.

As we stand on the precipice of unprecedented advancements in health technologies, the need for a comprehensive understanding of the legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks governing these innovations has become more relevant than ever. This Summer School aims to delve into the multifaceted challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid evolution of health technologies.

Credits info

4 EC
On the last day, there will be an assessment in the form of a (group) presentation on a topic relevant to one of the modules of the summer school. Based on the assessment and your attendance at all sessions of the program, you can receive a certificate of participation and be rewarded with 4 ECTS credits. Please note that it is up to your home institution to decide which and how many credits to accept for transfer.

Fee info

EUR 750: There is no application fee. However, the tuition fee is 750 euros for Master’s and PhD students. The tuition fee includes all the classes and course materials, but not accommodation or meals.
EUR 1000: There is no application fee. However, the tuition fee is 1000 euros for everyone else, who is not a Master’s and PhD student. The tuition fee includes all the classes and course materials, but not accommodation or meals.

Scholarships

We offer two scholarships in the form of a full tuition fee waiver for highly qualified participants who reside in a country which is designated as an LDC by the Committee for Development of the UN (for the most recent list, please check the website).
