This course is a hands-on course on GIS: 2 weeks of practical’s in the GIS Lab of the faculty of Geosciences. The following topics will be covered: Working with ArcGIS Desktop (ArcInfo) and Spatial Analyst, Modelbuilder and Python, automatic DEM extraction of stereo aerial photographs using Erdas Imagine eAte, Mobile GIS / GPS data collection, local and global datasets, and poster making.

Target group

Bachelor students in year 3 with generic computer skills

Course aim

At the end of the course, participants are expected/able to:
- Working with ESRIs ArcGIS desktop (ArcInfo) and Spatial-Analyst (data input, analysis and presentation)
- To perform an automatic DEM extraction of aerial photographs using ERDAS Imagine Leica Photogrammetry suite 2014 (ATE and eAte). Generate pointclouds and interpolate them in a surface model
- Collect data with Mobile GIS / GPS using such a device
- Handle detailed local and huge Global Geo-datasets (GIS, remote sensing)
- Make an a0 (Atlas)poster about a region of interest.
- Have an overview of current topics in the field of GIS
