This 10-day intensive summer school aims to develop in the students the skills in acting, movement and voice required to creatively and actively engage with heightened classical text.
The short course is particularly designed to help you explore and play within both established and innovative practices. You are encouraged to learn how to use your individual physical, vocal and personal skills to explore character and narrative.

The summer school is suitable for students age 17 notion that the arts are a universal
plus wishing to:
• build upon or refresh previous experience
• explore acting as a career pathway
• investigate the possibilities of pursuing a training experiences) to learn, create, explore
in acting and discover.
• enhance your interest in and knowledge about theatre and acting

Course leader

Ali de Souza is a Lecturer in Acting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Ali has worked extensively as an actor and director in theatre and film for over twenty-five years with many companies.

Target group

This summer school is particularly suited to students age 17 plus who are seeking a professional training experience or are thinking about acting as a career. The short course will also be useful to experienced actors who are keen to refresh their skills or explore new ways of working.

Course aim

By the end of the summer school, each student Summer School Student, August 2011 will have:

• been introduced to the essentials of textual analysis and building a character
• learned how to explore heightened text, verse- speaking and creating imagery as part of character, character relationships and story-telling
• gained an understanding of how to embody the voice as well as explore physicality in the performance of classical text
• explored and presented scenes and soliloquies from works by Shakespeare and classical Greek dramatists
