Adivasi Issues in Contemporary India: Identities, Resistance and Environment

In response to the growing interest in India in the era of globalisation, the Department of Culture, Politics and Society of the University of Turin is pleased to announce the 5th edition of the Summer School on “Politics, Development and Social Change in Contemporary India”.
Through an interdisciplinary approach, the School provides students with an extraordinary opportunity to analyse key political, social and cultural issues of contemporary India. Important recent trajectories of social change – as well as continuity – will be explored, encouraging critical reflection among students.
This year's programme will focus on Adivasi communities in contemporary India from different points of view: from a historical contextualisation relating to colonial conceptualisation of tribalism, to environmental issues, as well as issues of economic marginalisation, under-representation, antagonism and conflict in nowadays India. The week will be concluded by a round table with Adivasi writers, poets, and publishers to discuss cultural representation, voices and languages.
The working language is English and participation is open to students and professionals willing to broaden their knowledge and explore crucial dynamics currently unfolding in the subcontinent.
