Energy is a fundamental resource that makes modern life possible. It is an essential element of productivity, growth and quality of life. With global energy consumption projected to rise more than 50% by 2035, future prosperity depends on new ways to meet the world's energy needs. From flat-panel displays to solar PV inverters, new technologies are moving the world forward. These energy solutions will need to be cost effective and price competitive, applicable on a wide scale, and secure in their sources - "advanced energy." And there is a need to study methods that create economic, environmental and societal benefits through innovative and market-based approaches to energy issues.
