About

The course will cover recent extensions of the EUROMOD model to include wealth-related policies and indirect taxes, different options for nowcasting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the improved Hypothetical Household Tool for simulation of benefit entitlements and tax liabilities of user-defined individual profiles, advanced functions and online interfaces. Each session of the three-day course will be structured in a fist part with more traditional lectures, and a second part with a more interactive session, where participants will be able to discuss more technical issues with the lecturers.

Course leader

The summer school is organised by the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER), University of Essex, Colchester, United Kingdom, and the Centre for Social Policy Herman Deleeck (CSB) at the University of Antwerp.

Target group

Requirements for attending the summer school were:
- an interest in using microsimulation for policy analysis;
- familiarity with EUROMOD;
- a basic knowledge of quantitative analysis;
- familiarity with Stata is desirable but not essential.

Candidates to this school are expected to fill in the application form before 2 May 2021, including a motivation for attending the school.

Course aim

The aim of the course is to provide academics, policy practitioners and other interested users with an introduction to more advanced uses of EUROMOD. EUROMOD is a state-of-the-art tax-benefit microsimulation model linking micro-data from household surveys and policy legislation in a single user interface. EUROMOD allows for complex policy impact analysis, such as evaluations of policy reforms in terms of poverty, inequality, work incentives and government budgets, assessments of EU-wide policies or estimation of the impact of changing population characteristics on the redistributive effect of existing policies. EUROMOD covers all 27 EU Member States plus the UK.
