The program is organized by the Department of Primary Education of the School of Humanities and will take place on the island of Rhodes. The curriculum is tailored to the needs of students from the Greek Diaspora and is structured around three levels of language proficiency (A1, A2, B1/B2) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The summer school aims to meet the communicative and academic needs of participants, while also taking into account the process of negotiating their identity. In this context, modern methods and pedagogical approaches are applied to the teaching of Greek as a second/foreign language or as a heritage language. A central framework is the learning and use of the language in real communication scenarios, as well as participation in creative activities related to topics of language and cultural elements chosen by the participants. The program emphasizes lived experiences and skill development, including student interaction with native speakers, visits to sites of cultural and historical significance, and experiential learning through active participation in cultural events and everyday social activities. The program leverages the experience and expertise of the staff of the Department of Primary Education in teaching Greek as a second/foreign language. The summer school provides a unique opportunity for participants to develop communicative skills in both spoken and written language through a gradual and conscious acquisition of the fundamental structures and vocabulary of Modern Greek, coupled with a critical approach to various contemporary cultural contexts in which the language is used. By the end of the course, participants are expected to effectively function as competent users of Modern Greek in their daily communication and interpersonal relationships. Through the development of appropriate communicative and sociocultural skills, they will be able to use the language not only for social purposes but also for professional and academic goals. Additionally, students are expected to expand their knowledge of specific aspects of modern Greek culture and literature by participating in various cultural and academic events, enabling them to contribute to their communities upon returning home
