About
Explore the concept of place through drawing!
Nottingham is a vibrant city with unique examples of architecture from the past 1,000 years. It is surrounded by countryside, villages and castles that represent some of Englandās best examples of building and town planning. Think Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest, add Civil War and the industrial revolution, and you have the ideal place in the heart of England to learn about the history of architecture.
This course will explore the concept of people and place through drawing (freehand and digitally) and will introduce you to the notion of drawing as a tool for recording and communicating ideas about architecture and our urban landscape.
The course will include architectural history and theory as well as individual and group project work and presentations to demonstrate your artistic understanding of drawing, texture and pattern.
During the course you will undertake projects that:
1. Use different materials āin-situā to record architecture
2. Involve site observations to help you engage with a location
3. Explore how people interact with the environment
The focus is on improving your observation and hand drawing skills, as well as how to use the computer as a tool to generate images.
You will develop a personal project which will illustrate how people interact with historic buildings today.
