Art and Visual Culture Summer Programme

About

The programme offers a multidisciplinary approach encompassing art, architecture, sculpture and film, and draws on the magnificent collections across the University of Cambridge. For undergraduates, graduates, teachers and those with a passion for art and visual culture.

The academic programme

- Seminars Monday, Wednesday, Friday 2.00 - 3.30pm

- Afternoon gallery and museum visits in Cambridge
- Evening talks

Lecture series
These lectures, given by leading academics from the University of Cambridge and distinguished visiting speakers, will explore the theme of Narratives in relation to curatorial interpretation, storytelling, folklore, literature in art from around the world.

Gallery and museum visits
Visits to galleries and museums in Cambridge will enable you to enjoy the rich diversity of collections held across the city. There is also the opportunity to see many treasures housed in the Colleges and their libraries.

Workshop
We plan to offer a workshop entitled Illustrating myth on Tuesday 21 July.

This workshop will invite you to create a mixed media black and white collage illustrating a scene from a myth or legend. The workshop leader, Amy Jeffs, is a printmaker and specialist in text and image in medieval manuscripts. She will show you ways in which to find and analyse the primary sources, choose the best moment to illustrate and build a compelling composition.

Evening talks
Eminent speakers will present a variety of general interest talks. These are shared with students on our other programmes.
