The 2024 edition of the B-YOUth Summer School (see 2023 and 2022 editions) which will be held in Como, Monte Barro, from 16th to 20th June 2024, will be dedicated to an in-depth exploration of the nature and potential of young people's participation in research. If it is true that modernity has always placed great emphasis on knowledge and critical thinking as essential means for achieving emancipation, should we not think of young people, from the very beginning of their education, as co-constructors of emancipatory knowledge envisioning them as researchers who can formulate novel inquiries and develop conceptual and practical frameworks to reshape both their world and ours into a more equitable environment? Starting from these premises, and moving from a methodological perspective, the Summer School will focus on how to design participatory research able to recognize young people as legitimate meaning-makers and involve them as active subjects in the entire process. It will embrace the emancipatory nature of committed research as a horizon of meaning by considering both the possibility of the unheard voices to express themselves and the dynamics of power in educational practices. Combining lectures and seminars led by internationally renowned scholars and group-work activities, the B-YOUth Summer School will be an exciting opportunity for young researchers to reflect on the emerging theoretical and methodological perspectives on the debates concerning innovative strategies and knowledge co-construction for youth emancipation. It will offer an international and interdisciplinary training programme for PhD students and early-career academics, with the goal to enhance knowledge on themes related to these topics through lectures, seminars and group-work sessions led by scholars of national and international standing. It also aims to create an environment conducive to critical thinking and methodological discussion and to support exchange opportunities as well as the creation of new research networks.
