Becoming An Olympian In Sports Analytics

About

The second edition of the "Becoming an Olympian in Sports Analytics" winter school is scheduled to take place in Ghent, Belgium, from February 5th to 9th, 2024. In this intensive program, both junior and senior academics and practitioners can get experience in the field of sports data science.

We are excited to announce that we will be running two concurrent hands-on tracks with ample opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration:
A track tailored for sports scientists seeking to enhance their data science and AI skills.
A track designed for computer scientists keen to apply their expertise within sports.

Over the first three days, BOSA participants will acquire essential theoretical and practical knowledge from both disciplines - sports science and data science. In the last two days, they will collaborate intensively on a multidisciplinary hackathon project, where they will combine and apply their diverse skill sets. During the hackathon, participants will engage closely with end-users and sports federations that define the hackathon topics.

Course leader

This event is organized by IDLab, a collaborative research initiative involving the University of Antwerp, Ghent University, and imec. It has received support from Sport Vlaanderen, Victoris and VAIA (the Flemish AI Academy).

Target group

The Winter School extends a warm invitation to individuals from academic and professional backgrounds within the sports industry.

Course aim

Our objectives for this school are twofold:
- To foster knowledge exchange and bridge the gap between sports science, computer science, and the sports industry.
- To establish an international network of researchers and practitioners in advanced sports analytics, facilitating cross-pollination between these two domains.
