About

This module introduces the fundamental principles of clinical research, with a particular focus on clinical trials. You will learn how trials are designed, conducted, analysed and reported, and explore key elements such as randomisation, ethics and regulatory standards.

The module also considers related areas including health economics, data management and the role of patients and consumers in shaping research. It concludes with an introduction to systematic reviews and meta-analyses and their importance in evidence-based medicine.

Course aim

This module aims to:

- Provide you with a sound practical and methodological introduction to clinical trials and systematic reviews.
- Teach you about the role that high quality clinical trials and systematic reviews play in improving health outcomes as reliably and quickly as possible.
- Introduce you to the fundamental principles involved in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of clinical trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
- Highlight the many roles and responsibilities and skillsets involved in successful clinical trial design and conduct.
- Develop your personal skills to help you in your subsequent study and career options.
