Corporate Finance

About

Generally, corporate finance is all the activities within any enterprise, whether major or minor. Every decision made within an enterprise has financial implications, and every decision made by financial companies is a corporate finance decision.
In Corporate finance course we want to find out how to measure the value of a company or a project. We assess those through several steps where we focus on some basic specificities of each component. First, we will open up a discussion on how companies grow and what makes growth valid and sustainable. We will go a bit back to the principles of accounting and from an indirect method perspective we will develop a cash flow statement. As the basic principle of companies is to maximize a shareholders’ wealth, we will observe the value of the wealth through different time perspectives where we will also talk about investment criteria where potential shareholders can see how to value a project quickly. As companies operate, they usually make budgeting plans on a long or short-term basis. We will evaluate the growth rates and components of each plan.
Companies can either raise cash for investment by borrowing or by selling new shares of common stock to investors. If it borrows, it has a fixed obligation to repay the lender. If it issues shares, there is no fixed obligation, but the new stockholders become partial owners of the firm. We will include the concept of a risk and return to value both equity and debt instruments in this course. We will discuss even further the situation in the international exchange markets and draw attention to recent challenges in the stock exchanges.
