Have you ever thought about writing but never quite started? Are you experiencing writerโs block? Would you like to take your writing to the next level but do not know where to begin? Are you confused by conventions, stereotypes or genres?
This module invites you to explore and experiment with your creative writing strengths and preferences. It encourages you to embrace creative writing as an ongoing process, an entrepreneurial โfail betterโ and โsucceed togetherโ via a constructive feedback experience.
Sharing your writing can feel daunting and vulnerable. Yet, within this practice-based environment, we grow together by challenging stereotypes, exploring boundaries and developing skills in a supportive, stimulating and collaborative way.
You will:
Draw inspiration from poetry, prose and drama.
Gain insights into the publishing world and the life of a writer.
Experiment with writing styles, language and online media.
Journal your journey and immerse yourself in the creative process
Do what all writers must ultimately do: write.
This module is designed for those who wish to be more creative and perceptive. You will be equipped with a writerโs toolbox and ready to see London through literary-coloured glasses.

Writing styles and the role of language

This module aims to:
- Raise your awareness of the limitations and conventions of artistic problems.
- Develop your outlook on life informed by observation, empathy and perception.
- Familiarise you with the writing process.
- Consider the possibilities of, and challenges posed by, your own writing.
- Demonstrate the socio-political context of writing and recognise that it does not exist in a vacuum.
- Understand and surpass the conventional boundaries of writing forms.
- Experiment with various writing styles.
- Recognise the vital role of audience in your own writing.
- Write and express ideas clearly and creatively.
- Channel your imagination and curiosity into written output
