About

Artificial intelligence is becoming deeply integrated into society. Recent advancements, such as ChatGPT, promise exciting new opportunities, yet they also raise pressing concerns about sustainability. Issues like widening inequality, perpetuation of stereotypes, and negative effects on labor markets and the environment have sparked important debates. Join us in this Summer School course to critically explore the impact of AI on sustainability.

Course aim

Learning objectives
After completing this course, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the Basics of AI: Gain a comprehensive overview of the field of AI, including its capabilities, limitations, and diverse applications.
2. Analyze the Impact of AI on Sustainability: Evaluate the societal, ecological, and economic implications of AI, such as its effects on inequality, labor markets, and environmental resources.
3. Navigate Ethical and Practical Challenges: Identify ethical dilemmas and practical concerns associated with AI usage, including copyright issues, stereotype reinforcement, and resource consumption.
4. Align AI Use with Sustainability Goals: Assess how AI applications fit within organizational sustainability strategies, balancing conflicting objectives when necessary.
5. Develop Critical AI Literacy: Build the ability to critically analyze the costs, benefits, and trade-offs of AI adoption to make informed, sustainability-oriented decisions.
6. Shape Sustainable AI Policies and Practices: Equip themselves with the tools and frameworks to guide the responsible integration of AI in policymaking and organizational contexts.
