About

This module prepares you to use English effectively in business and management contexts.

You will develop your skills and understanding through a combination of lectures delivered by UCL School of Management staff and interactive business English language classes with experts in the field.

The learning experience is further enriched with weekly excursions to cultural and business-related places of interest in London.

The module is suitable for all planning to further your studies in business and/or management.

Strategies for understanding and using English
Delivering effective business presentations in English
Writing: developing appropriate style

Language and practice of business meetings
Presentations: organisation and structure
Writing: organisation and content of business reports

Course aim

This module aims to:

- Familiarise you with the conventions of English in a business context and give you practice in their use.
- Develop your skills in business writing and speaking as well as developing listening skills through exposure to a variety of business and management texts and lectures.
- Focus on continuing independent language learning after the course through the development of text analysis techniques.
- Encourage you to understand better the expectations of formal business writing and speaking contexts, leading to the independent production of a business report and an individual presentation in a business context.
- Develop transferable skills in reading relevant texts, synthesis, communication and critical thinking.
