About

This module is a good choice if you're looking to advance your knowledge and use of the English language in diverse contexts, and if have an interest in developing your appreciation and understanding of aspects of British culture.

The course consists of language workshops which focus on intercultural communication skills, as well as English language tuition and seminars on aspects of British culture including UK politics, British business and trade.

Other areas covered include AI applications in British business, as well as practical workshops where you'll work on supervised self-study activities, designed to boost language learning and/or cultural awareness.

For the British culture component of the course, each week is themed:
London and the world stage
British history
British arts and culture.
There will be a weekly trip, related to the theme of the week. The London week will include a two night, three day weekend trip to London with a guided tour of the British Museum, a River Thames boat cruise and free time to explore. It will end with a trip to Windsor Castle.

Choose from a two or three week module.

Two week module: 21 July to 1 August 2025.
Topics include:
Week 1: London and the World Stage. Includes a weekend in London with 2-nights stay in a hotel, tour of top attractions and free time to explore.
Week 2: British History. Includes a day trip to Arundel Castle to explore 1,000 years of royal history.

Three week module: 21 July to 8 August 2025.
Topics include:
Week 1: London and the World Stage. Includes a weekend in London with 2-nights stay in a hotel, tours of top attractions and free time to explore.
Week 2: British History. Includes a day trip to Arundel Castle to explore 1,000 years of royal history.
Week 3: British Arts and Culture. Includes a day trip to Brighton to explore the city of arts, culture and creativity.

Course aim

1. Examine and analyse aspects of British culture and intercultural communication in diverse contexts.
2. Identify and reflect on personal learning progress and cultural experiences.
3. Apply knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of aspects of British culture and to gain increased confidence to communicate in a variety of contexts.
4. Develop critical thinking skills through discussions and cultural analysis.
