The European Summer Course 2018 'Europe 3.0 - Between Integration, Globalisation and Nationalism' will take place from 13 to 24 August 2018 at the Europäische Akademie Otzenhausen.
It is organized by the Europa-Institut in cooperation with the ASKO EUROPA-STIFTUNG, the Europäische Akademie Otzenhausen and the Centre international de formation européenne (Cife). It is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This year's summer course will deal with:
- Current situation and main challenges of the EU after years of crisis
- EU institutional set-up and decision-making
- Separatism and regionalism in Europe – What does international law says about this
- The EU between enlargement and Brexit
- Data protection and digitalisation
- The EU as a crisis manager
- Fake news, populism, extremism – What does the rising weakness of moderate parties mean for the EU and its member states?
- Rise of right wing parties in Europe
- The EU as a trade power
- The EU single market – the four freedoms
- Human rights protection in Europe – hate speech and discrimination
- Scenarios on EU’s future development

Young, active and open-minded people (esp. students | young professionals) from all fields of studies and from all over the world, who have a strong interest in the European Union and its current challenges, are invited.
Is it time for a change? In the year before the next European election, the member states are tackling rising nationalism and populism. At the same time, they have to establish the European Union as a strong, forward-looking unit.
“Europe 3.0 – Between Integration, Globalisation and Nationalism” deals with a broad range of important political and economic developments of today’s European Union as well as with human rights protection in Europe in times of increasing digitalisation.
Fee
950 EUR, The participation fee is 950 Euro. This includes the program fee, field trips (to Brussels, Strasbourg, SaarbrĂĽcken), full board (all meals) and lodging at the European Academy of Otzenhausen.
