European Union and Legal Reform (EULR) Summer School

About

Since 2003, more than 400 students and scholars from 28 countries have traveled to Igalo, Montenegro to attend the European Union & Legal Reform Summer School, a weeklong post-graduate course organized by the CCSDD .

During the course, students attend an innovative series of lectures and roundtable discussions. The year 2018 marks a special year for the European Union which finds itself facing many new challenges but also looking for ways forward. What direction is the EU heading today? What would the Union look like without UK? What are the membership prospects for the Western Balkans? Other issues that particularly intrigue jurists include movements toward independence such as the Catalan referendum, the Brexit negotiations, the EU's relationship with its Eastern neighbors. How has the European Economic Constitution transformed through the financial crisis? Which are the new emerging institutional arrangements for the European governance? This year's edition of the Summer School will explore some of these issues and bring them in the context of the EU enlargement effort.

Professor Justin Frosini

Target group

The Summer School is open to final-year undergraduate students and graduate students in Law and Political Science, as well as young professionals and scholars.

Course aim

The vision of the EU & Legal Reform Summer School is to create a dynamic network of scholars and practitioners who will work to enact critical reforms as the EU expands. For the past 15 years we have worked towards this goal in three ways:

1. We have brought together a diverse group of young legal scholars who we hope will eventu-ally assist in legal reform and European integration processes in their respective countries and on the EU level.

2. We have initiated a fruitful exchange of experiences and best practices during and after the Summer School that may lead to future transnational projects.

3. We have published Igalo Series, a selection of reviewed student essays inspired by the presentations and discussions that occurred during each Summer School.
