The Croatian Association for Law and Economics (CALE) will hold an international seminar in Zagreb, from 01-03rd July, 2015. The topic of the event is “Examining the migration situation in South Eastern Europe“.
The course aims at analysing the main international and regional norms regarding migrations. It will be based on three key issues: firstly, defining the Balkan region and regional migration (countries, area, history, war); secondly, the role of the sources of international migration law and the consequences regarding migration situation (human trafficking); thirdly, the international protection of migrant workers and situation of asylum seeker claims .
The purpose of this seminar is to map the growing field of migration and humanitarian law from a critical and systematic view – reflected on the Balkan region. The seminar is designed to focus on the explicitly cross-border aspects of migration in global and historical perspective.
Further, the seminar aims at analysing the multiple facts of migration and humanitarian law by presenting its major themes from a conceptual and critical perspective.
Participants will be expected to gain more specific knowledge in migration and international law and to develop analytical skills in defining various aspects of migration and humanitarian law.

Target group

The seminar is open to both (PhD) students and graduates. We are particularly looking for participants that have experience and/or particular interest in migration and humanitarian law so that they would be able to follow the seminar themes. We are also looking for graduates who were / are working in various international organizations.

Course aim

Participants will be expected to gain more specific knowledge in migration and international law and to develop analytical skills in defining various aspects of migration and humanitarian law.
