External Strategic Communication

About

This course is an introduction to web based external communication with a strategic angle. The participants will learn about communication as a strategic tool for the organization, and how to develop a concrete and functional communication strategy and communication plan, including a content plan and a more detailed communication schedule. Further the course will contain some information about the visual identity and the tone of voice of the organization. Online media channels, such as some social media platforms, the website and news letters will be handled, too. Crisis communications will be handled shortly, too, from a sustainability angle.

Methods: Lectures, group work, project work, report, presentations.

Date: 1 August – 30 August. Contact teaching in Turku 4-15 August 2025. The start and/or finish of the course is completed online.

Target group

Undergraduate students who have completed at least of two years of Bachelor’s studies in any field. Graduate and postgraduate students are also welcome.

The student will be able to…

- Develop a communication strategy for an organization
- Develop a communication plan for an organization
- See the organization’s communication as part of the organization’s strategic operations
- Understand how the visuals and the tone of voice should be built for different target groups
- Choose the appropriate media channels for various forms of external communication, depending on goals and target groups
- Take on small crisis communication tasks
