It is highly recommended that students refresh their basic accounting knowledge by taking “ACC2001 Financial Accounting: How to Prepare Financial Statements,” offered in the previous week in Maastricht Summer School by the same instructor.

Course aim

• Understanding financial statements and various analytical techniques, including vertical analysis, horizontal analysis, common-sized statements, and ratio analysis.
• Comparing financial statements of different corporations, utilizing real-world data from major companies such as Google and Microsoft (sourced from www.finance.yahoo.com and www.sec.gov/EDGAR).
• Performing Liquidity, Profitability, and Solvency Analysis for comparable corporations (e.g., Coca-Cola and Pepsi) using data from www.finance.yahoo.com.
• Applying DuPont identity and conducting DuPont Analysis to evaluate the performance of different functional divisions within a corporation, such as management, marketing, and finance.
• Conducting a comprehensive Financial Statement analysis for a chosen corporation. Students will work on financial statements of their selected companies, accessing data from www.finance.yahoo.com, with guidance from the lecturer and instant feedback provided.
