From Within
We all have inner thoughts, feelings and perceptions of the exterior world we inhabit and navigate throughout our life-time.
This workshop will explore how the poetics or narratives of these interior worlds make connections with an imagined or real exterior place or specific site.
Using flame worked glass we will aim to construct three-dimensional artworks and installations that begin to explore these imagined and transitory worlds.
In the first instance we will use drawing and assembling processes to trigger ways and explore how best to begin working with these ideas in three dimensions.
This workshop will focus on flame working techniques and the participants will begin to learn simple skills that will allow them to experimentally play, explore and construct with glass in order to visually and structurally realize their poetic inner narratives.
Flame working is a very versatile glass technique whereby intricate structures, blown forms, fragile hot modeling and colour fusing can be combined to make extra ordinary sculptural evocations.
We will aim to finish the workshop by setting up the work produced as a pop up exhibition at Berlin Glas.
Conceptual and Technical topics covered during the workshop:
- Fusing: using rods and tubes
- Blowing
- Structures: including circles, cubes etc
