Frontiers of Children’s Rights

About

Frontiers of Children’s Rights provides a comprehensive children’s rights course, which takes a close look at
contemporary children’s rights issues from a legal perspective accompanied by reflections from other academic
disciplines, legal systems, local perceptions and realities. The summer school, held at the beautiful premises
of Leiden Observatory and Campus The Hague, offers inspiring and interactive lectures and seminars by
leading academics and professional experts in the field of children’s rights and international law.

Themes include

• Children in the justice system
• Alternative care: protection of the family and the child
• Emerging global issues: whose responsibility?
• Protection and participation of children in (armed) conflict
• Children’s rights and digital technologies

Special Features

• Seminar on the role of NGO’s with UNICEF & Defence for Children International
• Excursion to a youth detention centre
• Excursion to the International Criminal Court in The Hague

Target group

This summer school is aimed at law students (who have completed at least three years of their degree), young graduates and professionals with a background in law. Applicants with a background in other relevant disciplines that are relevant to the theme of the summer school will be considered as well.

Course aim

Frontiers of Children's Rights enables participants to learn everything about topical children's rights issues and connect with participants from all over the world. An enriching experience for professionals and advanced students who work on children's rights on a daily basis.
