About

Due to the covid-19 outbreak, JU Summer School is cancelled for 2020. We hope to welcome you in 2021.

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and understanding of the global situation related to health and
welfare. Some of the elements included are the UN Sustainable Development Goals in relation to health and welfare, cultural aspects, complexity and impact of social determinants of health in different countries, international classification on functioning disability and health (ICF), perspectives on health and welfare in community development and more.

Target group

Undergraduate/bachelor level students in any educational area.

Course aim

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)
Upon completion of the course students should have the ability to:
Knowledge and understanding
identify and discuss cultural aspects related to health and welfare
analyse the impact of common diseases/disabilities in diverse cultural contexts from
different professional perspectives
describe the impact and complexity of social determinants of health in different countries
discuss community development and its relevance to ensure quality and safety with
organizations in a global health context
discuss and reflect on UN Sustainable Development Goals in relation to health and welfare.
Skills and abilities
consider contextual factors and appropriate scientific research methods when working in
diverse contexts
apply the International Classification on Functioning Disability and Health (ICF) to identify
and describe different health conditions
demonstrate the ability to consider the impact on common diseases and disabilities from a
public health perspective
demonstrate the awareness of facilitators and barriers for implementing human rights.
Judgement and approach
identify and value one´s own professional culture
reflect upon different cultural factors on health and welfare
develop a culture sensitive approach and incorporate cultural competence in health and
social care.

20000 SEK, Tuition including transcript of academic records and certificate after completing the course successfully.

Fee

1000 SEK, Social and Cultural Package. Includes: welcome lunch, company visits, trip to one of Sweden’s best-preserved castles from the16th century in Vadstena, a trip to Gränna a charming city where popular peppermint candy canes are being handmade, excursions in the Swedish nature, Swedish Mid-summer celebration and more fun activities! Additional activity (extra cost to be confirmed): Weekend trip to Gothenburg including the amusement park Liseberg
