This course will inform you - from different perspectives - about the factors that keep older people healthy and participating in society. We will focus on a better understanding of the aging process, the prevention of functional decline and preservation of autonomy. Different excursions will let you experience getting older. Prior to the course, you will be given an assignment to conduct a life review with an elderly person (65+) and will present this during the course.
The increase in longevity of the population is one of the major achievements of the twenty first century. This rapid demographic transition poses huge challenges to many countries in different areas. This two week course will inform you – from different perspectives – about the factors that keep older people healthy and participating in society. In this multidisciplinary course on healthy aging, we focus on a better understanding of the aging process (biological, psychological and social), the prevention of functional decline and preservation of autonomy. Furthermore, we have different visits e.g. to a Senior Friendly Hospital and an innovative nursing home. We will also let you experience what it is like to get older.
