About

The Kalliopi Koufa Foundation for the Promotion of International Law and the Protection of Human Rights is pleased to announce the Fourth Session of the Thessaloniki Summer Courses to take place from June 27 to 7 July 2017 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The title of this year’s session is “Human Rights Protection and Regional Integration: Can the European Union be an Example?s”.

It is our intention to offer an intensive 10-days course, where various aspects of human rights protection at the regional level –with a special focus on Europe– will be covered. These include the protection of human rights in the European Union, the system of human rights protection of the Council of Europe, the ways specific human rights and freedoms protection in Europe (such as freedom of religion, or the rights of persons belonging to ethnic minorities, etc) are protected in Europe and whether these ways could be “exported” in other parts of the world, as well as the compliance of European Union’s external action with human rights.

Target group

The 2018 Thessaloniki Summer Courses on “Human Rights Protection and Regional Integration: Can the European Union be an Example?” is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students especially LLM students and PhD candidates, EU officers, researchers and practitioners from all over the world with a keen interest in International Humanitarian Law and European Law. In the framework of the course participates will have the chance to engage in discussion and interest with some of the most renowned scholars in the field.

Course aim

It is our intention to offer an intensive 10-days course, where various aspects of human rights protection at the regional level –with a special focus on Europe– will be covered. These include the protection of human rights in the European Union, the system of human rights protection of the Council of Europe, the ways specific human rights and freedoms protection in Europe (such as freedom of religion, or the rights of persons belonging to ethnic minorities, etc) are protected in Europe and whether these ways could be “exported” in other parts of the world, as well as the compliance of European Union’s external action with human rights.

250 EUR, Early-bird application: Candidates applying until 5 April 2018 will get a reduced application fee of 250€. They will be notified on their admission and any decision on scholarship requests via e-mail until 10 April 2018. They will need to pay the application fee until 15 April 2018. In case of withdrawal until 31 May 2018, 100€ will be reimbursed. There will be no reimbursement after that date. The fee covers registration, attendance, course material and the appropriate certificate of attendance but does NOT cover accommodation, travel expenses and any meals. For excursions (optional participation), a small fee will apply (more information will be available in due course).
