The first section is a general overview of all shared information needed for all engineering students about humanoid robots, their possible applications and a tour of the lab and existing progress there. The second part of the workshop will be given for each major separately with different focus points:
Electrical engineering and Mechatronics students will be given sessions to equip them with an integrated understanding of modeling, equation derivation and numerical solution of multi-body systems with applications towards development and control of humanoid robots. By the end of the workshop, each of these students should be able to do the following: Identify relevant points, bodies, and frames; choose generalized coordinates to represent a multi-body system or a humanoid robot / Form the position vectors and obtain required velocities and accelerations / Formulate constraint equations and equation of motion / Numerically solve for the Differential Algebraic Equations (DAE) to simulate the dynamics of the humanoid robot.
Computer Science students will be given sessions that give them a deeper understanding of affect-aware robots, their applications and how to deal with them. By the end of the workshop they should be able to do the following:
Understand how to program and customize the humanoid robot / Identify the possible means for affect recognition in humanoid robots / Give the robot basic affect-recognition capabilities using one of the existing tools or a newly developed one / Program the humanoid robot to perform a minor change of behavior according to the effect of users during an interaction
The mentioned theoretical course of the workshop will be complemented by experimental work on a humanoid robot provided by Neurorobotics Research Laboratory. Please refer also to http://neurorobotik.de
