About

International Heritage Summer School 2022 (IHSS 2022) is a laboratory learning experience, merging theoretical contributions to observation, interpretation and methodological recording of landscape . The Douro Region, Portugal, is a territory marked by multiple issues that allow a multidisciplinary approach.

Landscape is an individual perception and a living space, not only a contemplative space. Landscape is the community's sense of belonging and its transformations and changes that are developed through time summoning the relationship of human beings with his territory.

With this motto we intend to raise questions, develop problems and present proposals for the study, reading and interpretation of the Territory and Landscape and in these of Heritage as a fundamental axis of development.

Target group

Undergraduate Students, Master students and PhD candidates from Heritage Sciences, Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Tourism, History of Art and History.
Higher technicians and professionals in the areas of Heritage Sciences, Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Tourism, History of Art, History and related areas.

Course aim

The IHSS Douro'22 aim to promote a space for dialogue and promotion of knowledge on the themes of Cultural Heritage and Landscape and the new challenges that these themes must be discussed for the 21st century. The theme proposed for the next Summer School is "Landscapes: borders, thresholds and peripheries", and it is intended to discuss issues of cultural policies, social welfare, readings, and interpretation of the landscape and safeguarding and promoting cultural heritage.
